Montana State University School of Art and the Helen E. Copeland Gallery invite the public to the premiere of “Second Sight: Continuum”, an MFA thesis exhibition by artist and MFA candidate Chris Holton.

With directed movement and free participation, Second Sight: Continuum is an interactive, multimedia installation by Chris Holton.  Chris Holton is a MFA sculpture candidate that has added digital media to his artistic practice.  Concerned with the speed of communication and lack of physical agency involved, Chris sets up an opportunity for individuals to engage with the work as passive or active participants.

The exhibition dates are Monday March 11 – Friday March 22, 2013, and it is free and open to the public.

There will be an artist’s reception on Thursday March 21 from 6:30 – 8:30 PM.  The Helen E. Copeland Gallery is located within The School of Art’s Haynes Hall, on the second floor and is open Monday through Friday, 9:00AM – 5:00PM.

Montana State University School of Art and the Helen E. Copeland Gallery invite the public to the premiere of “Drift, Ascend”, an MFA thesis exhibition by artist and MFA candidate Jessica Mongeon.

Mongeon’s thesis exhibition exposes and explores structures that are found in the natural world, as well as the world of imagination. Jessica Mongeon documents her hikes through mountain terrain, aggregating multiple experiences into large-scale India ink and acrylic paintings on paper. By building up calligraphic marks, along with larger strokes of color, she creates a space that speaks to her journeys though the veil of time, distance and action.

The exhibition dates are Monday March 4 – Friday March 8, 2013, and it is free and open to the public.

The artist will be presenting her defense of thesis on Monday March 4, 11AM, in the Helen E. Copeland Gallery.

There will be an artist’s reception on Thursday March 7 from 6:30 – 8:30 PM.  The Helen E. Copeland Gallery is located within The School of Art’s Haynes Hall, on the second floor and is open Monday through Friday, 9:00AM – 5:00PM.

Artists’ reception: Thursday January 24, 6:30 – 8:30 PM

Montana State University School of Art and the Helen E. Copeland Gallery invite the public to Vox Populi 2013.  This annual juried exhibition is a diverse and unique selection of artworks by MSU undergraduate students from across the campus.  This exhibition is free and open to the public.  Please join us for an opening reception on Thursday January 24, 6:30 – 8:30 PM.

This year’s jurors are Patrick Hoffman, Installation Artist and Art Teacher at Bozeman High School, and Mette Juul, Lens-Based Multimedia Artist/Photographer and MSU School of Art iAIR Spring 2013.  We received over 150 submissions this year and would like to thank the jurors for their hard work and contributions.

As incentive for student participation, we hold a raffle open to all students who submitted artwork.  The drawing will be held on Thursday January 24 at 7:00pm.

The exhibiting students for this year’s Vox Populi are:

Gillia’s thesis exhibition involves large scale oil paintings created for the completion of Mr. Gillia’s degree of Master of Fine Arts at Montana State University – Bozeman.

The exhibition dates are Tuesday November 13 – Friday November 30, and it is free and open to the public.  There will be an opening reception on Friday November 16, from 6:30 – 8:30 PM.  The Helen E.
